The Eagle’s Nest Project is Wyloo’s flagship project in the
Ring of Fire region. It is one of the most significant, undeveloped, high-grade nickel, copper, and platinum group element (PGE) deposits in the world and will be the first critical minerals deposit mined in the region.
Sustainability is at the heart of our mine design, with a surface footprint of approximately 1 square kilometre. The mine will be underground, incorporating paste backfill to store 100 per cent of tailings also underground to minimize surface disruption.
Wyloo is committed to developing world-class operations vital for the clean energy transition, with the aim to be a net zero emissions mine. Through industry-leading practices and technologies, and genuine partnership and collaboration with local communities, Wyloo aims to be a benchmark for sustainable mining.
Wyloo’s Esker Site serves as a base for project and exploration
work and sits on top of the future Eagle’s Nest Mine.
Currently, Esker Site is only accessible by air. Significant measures are taken to coordinate flights and to orientate all workers and visitors coming though Esker Site on aircraft safety.
Amenities at Esker Site include heated sleeping accommodations, a fitness centre, sauna, laundry facility, a teepee used for cultural purposes, and a recreational facility with a pool table, video game console, andsatellite television. The kitchen serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and even accommodates dietary restrictions. Take a look through our Image Gallery to see ‘A Day in the Life of Esker’!
Each day at Esker Site starts with a morning meeting to discuss the planned work for that day, as well as a safety talk to identify hazards and controls. We also strive to create a workplace environment that encourages open and free discussions about mental health, which is incorporated into our safety talk.
Some of the day-to-day activities at Esker Site include maintenance and operations, environmental baseline studies, geophysics, and promoting a positive safety culture through regular workplace inspections, reporting hazards and near misses, developing and implementing safety policies and procedures, and providing effective health and safety training during normal working hours.
Our vision is to develop the Eagle’s Nest Project in partner ship with First Nation and local communities, and working alongside contractors, suppliers and surrounding communities through continuous engagement.
Our aim is to empower First Nations through capacity building, which includes creating and sustaining Indigenous employment opportunities, having at least 50 per cent Indigenous workforce at Esker Site, and awarding contracts to Indigenous-led businesses as we advance development in the region. Outreach and engagement play a key role and we welcome the opportunity to visit First Nation communities to present company updates, as well as to listen and receive feedback from community members.
